Non of the event times overlap, which means you’ll have the opportunity to experience all sessions on offer.

Become informed about how sound is used to support wellbeing through this experiential 1-day event.

 

Tessa Ann, host and keynote speaker for this educational and conversational workshop style event.  Introduces this event, the theme and will talk about some of her own work throughout the day on the use of sound for wellbeing and connecting people and spaces through sound.

 

Tessa has invited guest speakers, some of whom she has worked with on past projects to share their ways of working with sound that have the potential to support wellbeing for individuals and communities.

 

You will explore how concepts and practices using the medium of sound may potentially be used to support wellbeing and a how it may be used to support a healthy connection with yourself and  your environment.

 

Tessa Ann will weave a common thread of sound for wellbeing between these ideas, offering you practical takeaways to inspire your practice or project.

 

Topics we’ll cover on the day are:

 

How we hear sound?  Sound perception:  How we hear and experience sound the way we do and some science behind it.

 

Dr. Trevor Agus from Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC) will join Tessa Ann to deliver a conversational workshop on how we hear sound, the science behind it.

Followed by a sound bath taster.

 

The healing power of the voice:  How the sound of the voice may be used to support end-of-life hospice patients and the loved ones they leave behind.

 

PhD student Isaac Gibson from SARC will share and present his project on the use of the voice in creating memories for ‘End of Life’ patients and their families.

 

Supporting sound sensory challenges through sound:  Managing sound sensitivities and sound sensory challenges common with autism.

Tessa will chat with chat with Rebecca McCullough from Eden Consultancy on the use of sound to support additional needs.  

 

Sound to heal spaces: Using sound to create wellbeing spaces.

 

Marianne O’Kane Boal from MAG the Ministerial Advisory Group for Architecture and the built environment for NI will talk about how sound is used to heal spaces.

 

Sound and YOU:  

As keynote speaker Tessa Ann with her guests will take you on a journey throughout the day to explore and encourage personal understanding of your own experience of sound.

 

Taster therapeutic sound experience:  Experience a sound relaxation session on the day.

 

Also included are the ‘Sonic Arts Research Centre’ @ The Braid and ‘Sounding Conflict’ events.

Workshop and listening session with the SARC Team

Sound Space Environment Members will play some pieces and give a brief talk on each piece.

They will then follow this with their ECOS legacy piece recorded at ECOS for Mid East Antrim Council as part of the festival.
